Myra Champions: Supporting Better Care

Our Myra Champions are the individuals, organisations, and partners who have supported the Myra journey from the start. Through their dedication, guidance, and collaboration, they help us reach carers, older adults, and families navigating hospital discharge and ongoing care.

These champions connect us with essential services, initiatives, and communities that make a real difference for people using the Myra app. Their support enables us to provide trusted guidance, practical resources, and tools that help families plan for safer discharges and manage care at home more confidently.

We are incredibly grateful to every Myra Champion for their ongoing commitment. Together, we are building stronger partnerships across healthcare, social care, and community organisations, ensuring that carers and older adults have access to the support they need, exactly when they need it.

We look forward to continuing these collaborations well into the future, expanding our shared impact, and championing better care for all.

Care Radio is a dedicated 24/7 nationwide radio station using a mix of popular music, listener voices, experts, advocates and relatable presenters to deliver a positive message of support, comfort and companionship as well as light relief for care workers and their families.

As a not for profit CIC registered organisation, Care Radio is led by industry experts from the radio and care sectors. Everyone working on this project volunteers their time and energy free of charge to say thank you and support those who have given so much. Originally launched during the covid pandemic, Care Radio has been designed to harness the public’s empathy and provide individuals, business and organisations with the opportunity to support the nation’s carers.

The audience for Care Radio is primarily of carers: that is staff working in the NHS and in care environments as well as millions of unpaid carers.
Care Radio aims to support the emotional well-being of care workers by signposting the support available; sharing problems and concerns; lifting spirits with stories and celebrating achievements; and creating a feeling of not ‘being in it alone’.

You can listen to Care Radio online or via the app, available in apple and google play stores.

Janet Hadfield is the college’s business innovation lead for health and social care, and alongside her management team, has provided invaluable support to the Myra team since 2024, as an integral part of her ‘Community of Care’ activities in Hampshire & the Isle of Wight.

Hampshire County Council and Innovate UK established the LSIF (Local Skills Improvement Fund) to focus on 4 key business sectors, of which Health & Social Care is one, developing centres of excellence across Hampshire.  LSIF works across industry and education, to amplify employer engagement, focus on supporting business innovation and growth, skills development and helping stimulate overall economic development.

SHCG / Fareham College supports T-level age students to develop their skills and develop their careers, and working with the health and social care teams enabled us to conduct research into the Myra app.  This took place in NHS facilities in Hampshire, interviewing patients and carers in relation to the app’s functionality and if they thought it helpful.

The students visited the Clarence Unit, a recovery suite, to interview residents about the app’s use and design. The aim was to not only improve project outcomes, but also give students the chance to use developing technology and build essential skills such as a professional bedside manner.

Janet commented: “The students did a great job – the manager, staff, patients and family members at the Clarence Unit were extremely impressed with their care, kindness and professionalism”.

The result of this exercise overall showed that 91% of interviewees thought the Myra app would be helpful when planning hospital care and discharge, with a 900% uplift in app installs during the study period.

We are thankful for all the support provided by Janet and her team, and look forward to future collaborations.  An exciting development is currently underway which we will be reporting on in the spring of 2026.

Health Innovation Wessex

The Myra team has worked with Health Innovation Wessex over an 18-month period to April 2026. This collaboration has been instrumental in supporting work first with South Hampshire College Group where a successful ‘Discharge to assess’ programme was carried out, to then launching the Myra Hospital Discharge App into the NHS, where a partnership with a major UK hospital is ongoing to improve patient flow, and bring significant cost savings. It is envisaged that this work will be repeated across many other Trusts in the UK. Working with HIW has without doubt been instrumental in accelerating the adoption and spreading of the Myra Hospital Discharge App.

Health Innovation Wessex is part of the national Health Innovation Network, established by the NHS to help fast-track the adoption and spread of the most promising innovations into healthcare.
